Kittybrewster Primary School pupils learnt Yoga thanks to the Union Square’s Community Bursary which enabled them to start a free lunchtime club for pupils of all ages throughout the school. The school yoga club runs for ten week periods from Monday to Thursday and is taught by local professionals. Other Kittybrewster Primary School lunchtime clubs include Creative dance, Storytelling, Creating music and Yoga. It is hoped that the clubs, including the yoga club, will inspire the pupils to keep up a new interest, which they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do.
Ian Macindoe, head teacher, at Kittybrewster Primary School said:
The lunchtime clubs provide our pupils with a new, fun experience, and, most importantly, for free! Earlier in the school year, we asked the pupils how they might like to spend their lunch breaks and what sorts of hobbies would interest them. Now, thanks to the funding from Union Square, we are able to make many of these requests a reality. The activities have proved hugely popular since launching at the beginning of the new term just a few weeks ago, so much so that the dance group are even planning a Christmas performance for the whole school! We hope to be able to carry on the fun come the New Year.
Penny Godfrey, marketing manager, for Union Square said of this Aberdeen yoga club:
The community bursary programme presents an opportunity to help local charities and organisations make a real difference at grass roots level. Kittybrewster Primary is a great example of this, and the funding has allowed the school to introduce a whole host of new activities to pupils. These are great confidence boosters as well as being lots of fun and it is great to hear they are being so well received.
