From the moment you pick up the stunningly covered books, you know you are stepping back in time and transported to the heart of Scotland.

I love the way she weaves social reforms into her narrative, such as the National Insurance Act and the Women’s Freedom League activities. Her vibrant descriptions bring scenes alive. My favourite is the detectives, Maud and Daisy, enjoying a Penny Lick in a Victorian Park in Edinburgh wearing their stepping out dress.
Lydia has created Scottish detectives of a bygone era that have deservedly stormed to the top of the book charts. Each cosy mystery satisfyingly solves each murder, along with some other crimes that tie in with the main crime.
