Casa Salvatore Italian Restaurant Ellon Aberdeenshire

- Guide to the menu and facilities.

Casa Salvatore is a friendly family run restaurant and take-away specialising in home made Italian dishes and cooking.

Set on one floor, at ground level and with disabled access, the restaurant is just around the corner from the main shopping street and near several car parks. The River Ythan is a short walk away - worth visitng to walk off the meals - the portions are huge and the meals tasty - we always return empty plates!

The lowered beamed ceiling and open beams along the walls gives an intimate feel to this charming restaurant.

My new novel:

The Fence Aberdeen Zombie post apocalyptic military survival Novel Book

The Aberdeen skies are under attack from an enemy jet. It is spilling a strange yellow smoke. Minutes later, people start killing each other.
Former Royal Air Force Regiment Gunner Jason Harper witnesses this and then his wife, Pippa, telephones him, shouting that she needs him. They then get cut off. He sets straight out, unprepared for the nightmare that unfolds during his journey. Everyone seems to want to kill him.
Along the way, he pairs up with fellow survivor Imogen. But she enjoys killing the living dead far too much. Will she kill Jason in her blood thirst? Or will she hinder his journey through this zombie filled dystopian landscape to find his pregnant wife?
The Fence is the first in this series of post-apocalyptic military survival thrillers from the torturous mind of local horror and science fiction novel writer C.G. Buswell.

Service is always attentive and meals and drinks, though freshly prepared, always arrive quickly. The owners often mingle with the patrons, enjoying a friendly chat. You can even buy a CD of the owner, Salvatore Vaccarino, singing traditional Italian songs. He also gives concerts locally for local charities.

There is a full lunch menu, though I'd recommend the fixed lunch special which gives you a generous helping of a pasta dish and two large slices of pizza.

In the evenings you can order from the full menu, though I'd recommend ordering from the year menu which gives you 4 courses for under £13. OAP's can get this for under £8. This is available from 1800 - 2200, Monday to Friday. Starters include mussels in a white wine and cream sauce or chicken soup with chicken pieces, whipped egg and pasta. Main courses include linguini with prawns in a lemon, garlic and wine sauce, penne salsiccia piccante or lamb casserole with a medley of mediterranean vegetables and roast potatoes. Puddings include homemade lemon flan or meringue nest with ice cream and fruits of the forest. Coffee and mints follow.

On a Sunday evening there is a 4 course special menu for under £10. Starters include fresh mushroom cups filled with chicken and spinach mix which is topped with crushed tomatoes and mozzarella cheese or homemade minestrone soup. Main courses include breaded pork milanese topped with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce served with spaghetti or salmon in a lemon butter sauce served with vegetables and potatoes. Desserts include Italian fruit cake with chocolate sauce and ice cream or panettone. Coffee and mints are included. Children can order a pizza margherita and vanilla ice cream for £5.

Aberdeen Lynne Golden Retriever

Have you seen my beautiful golden retriever Lynne out and about in Aberdeen? Ask her for a high-five! She's a Bravehound PTSD assistance dog, so we'll often be in shops, restaurants, and the cinema together.

We've written a book where I talk about growing up in Aberdeen and then joining the army to be a medic and nurse, and developing military Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I also talk about losing my son to suicide and the therapy I have had at Royal Cornhill Hospital and grief support groups in Aberdeen.

The author, Damien Lewis, said of Lynne:

"A powerful account of what one dog means to one man on his road to recovery. Both heart-warming and life-affirming. Bravo Chris and Lynne. Bravo Bravehound."

There is a separate menu with a wide range of Italian coffee, liqueurs and coffee liqueurs.

Throughout lunch and dinner there are many snacks to accompany your meals. I'd particularly recommend the mixed olives - fresh, succulent and tasty. There's a range of breads and garlic breads, french fries, etc.

There is an adjoining pizza, pasta and Italian food take-away next door which is run by the same owners and is open at the same times. Specials include a free wine bottle with selected pizzas, free garlic bread with selected pasta dishes and free chocolate fudge cake with selected main courses. In addition here are lunch specials such as fixed prices for set meals such as a pizza or pasta dish with soup or panini hot sandwich.

The Casa Salvatore Restaurant offers an outside catering service called Liaison Catering which caters for buffets, banquets etc.
