The Castle was owned by the Ogilvies Earls of Findlater. The third Earl had a bit of a temper and flew into uncontrollable rages. During one rage he murdered his friend. The Earl then committed suicide by cutting his throat. His remorseful spirit is said to haunt the buildings. Footsteps have been heard in areas where no-one is present and appearances have been sighted in the area that used to be the library and the church rooms.
