Rates for Isle of Skye accommodation tend to be a little bit more expensive during these months. Winter visitors can save about £5 to £10 a night for Isle of Skye accommodation though most of the tourist attractions and places to go close from November to March.

The first Isle of Skye Accommodation that aboutaberdeen.com can highly recommend is the Swordale House Bed and Breakfast accommodation just outside Broadford at Swordale in the Glen Suardal area. This Isle of Skye accommodation review is based on an August stay we enjoyed over a three night period. We were charged £30 per person per night for bed and breakfast and rates vary from £25 to £35 for doubles. Single person rates vary from £35 to £45 for bed and breakfast. Our booking was made by telephone and they have a website at swordale-house-skye.co.uk but cannot take credit card payments so no deposit or advance payment was requested. Payments after the B&B stay is by cheque or cash.
Guests are asked to arrive after 4pm. Swordale House can be found by turning left at the Broadford chip shop and the cabin shop by the Broadford Hotel. It is about a mile drive past houses and over a cattle grid, taking care of the roaming sheep who like to lie on the hot tarmac of the B8083 to Elgol. There are no fences on the Isle of Skye to stop wandering wildlife and this is part of its charm. Swordale House is on the left hand side with parking across the road in a layby beside the fenced off garden. Wandering cows walked past the car in the evening oblivious to the traffic in their search for some greener grass! The side parking is usually used by the owners though some guest at this bed and breakfast guest house used it during our B&B stay.
A warm welcome awaits guests and aboutaberdeen were pleased to see the owner, Barbara Christie, feeding her ducks and picking berries for breakfast from the guest house garden in front of the Red Cuillin hills.
We were able to request a fresh duck egg for breakfasts and this was most delicious with a strong yellow yolk. Her husband, Alan Christie, was kind enough to help with our suitcases. His wife then gave us the tour of her homely Isle of Skye accommodation .
There are about 7 steep steps to get into Swordale House and about a dozen stairs to the bedrooms. There is no disabled access.
The large reception hall led into the lounge which is for the use by guests with comfortable armchairs, a sofa and writing desk and chair. The log fire is lit each night to provide not just heat but a snug feeling.
Have you seen my beautiful golden retriever Lynne out and about in Aberdeen? Ask her for a high-five! She's a Bravehound PTSD assistance dog, so we'll often be in shops, restaurants, and the cinema together.
We've written a book where I talk about growing up in Aberdeen and then joining the army to be a medic and nurse, and developing military Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
I also talk about losing my son to suicide and the therapy I have had at Royal Cornhill Hospital and grief support groups in Aberdeen.

Each room also has their own electric heating system which provides instant heat rather than on a timer for the whole house. There was always plenty of hot water during our stay on the Isle of Skye. Depending on the double room you are given you have either sole use of the bathroom with bath or an en-suite room with walk in shower, toilet and sink. There is complimentary soap and body wash and a large fluffy bath towel and hand towel for each guest.
Rooms at this Isle of Skye accommodation are spacious with a double bed, wardrobe, bedside cabinets, table and chairs, wall mirror and chest of drawers. These were kept spotless during our three day stay, the bin emptied each day, carpets vacuumed, fresh towels provided and the sheet changed each morning.
This Isle of Skye accommodation does not provide evening meals but there are plenty of places to eat in nearby Broadford. Aboutaberdeen.com particularly recommend the chip shop which has delicious deep fried slices of haggis or the Creelers Restaurant.
Tea, coffee, milk, kettle, cups and saucers are provided in each room and are restocked each morning. there is a hairdryer and clock with alarm in the bedroom.
Breakfast was by far the best meal that www.aboutaberdeen.com have enjoyed in any hotel, bed and breakfast or guesthouse in Scotland and indeed throughout the UK. In the dining room with views over the red Cuillin hills there were four different cereals, fresh milk, orange juice and a large bowl of fresh fruit salad including home grown fruits for starting breakfast.
A huge pot of tea or fresh percolated coffee is then brought through from the kitchen by Alan or his wife along with a huge rack of toast and some delicious homemade oat cakes and preserve of jam. Guests are then given a choice of oak smoked haddock, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs or a full breakfast of 3 venison sausages, 2 rashers of bacon, fried egg (the duck eggs are delicious), mushrooms and fried tomato. The breakfast at Swordale House was so filling that the aboutaberdeen team did not buy lunch during our stay on the Isle of Skye.
Breakfast is served from 8am to 9am with no rush to leave the table. Guests leaving that day are requested to leave by 10am so that Alan and Barbara Christie can prepare the rooms for new guests. There were never vacancies during our three day stay indicating the popularity of this excellent guest house Isle of Skye accommodation.
Children are welcome at Swordale House Isle of Skye accommodation though there are no single beds. The three bedrooms in this bed and breakfast guest house have double beds.
Dogs are made welcome at Swordale House Isle of Skye accommodation and made a fuss of by the owners. They are permitted into the lounge and bedrooms. A grassed area can be found by each car park and there is a lovely walk behind and adjacent to the house after walking up the hill for about 100 metres.
Looking back to Swordale House the right path takes you to Broadford Village whilst going left takes you for a larger walk that gives some great views of the hills and plenty of sheep and cattle for company. A two hour walk takes you to an abandoned fishing village.
The front door was never locked during our stay and this was particularly handy for letting our dog out to the toilet during the late evening, in the middle of the night and early morning. The bedrooms had locks and their own keys to give residents piece of mind and keep belongings safe.
We always take a portable DVD player and some DVDs during B&B or hotel stays for quiet evenings after a fine meal out and are glad we did so for this Isle of Skye accommodation because there was no TV in the bedroom nor in the lounge. Walking round the building we could not find an aerial nor Sky satellite dish. So telly addicts may wish to make private arrangements with the owners or set their digital recorder before they leave home! Please do not let the lack of television put you off staying at this Isle of Skye accommodation because every other aspect was first class during our stay. The owners are great conversationalists and it is great to meet and chat with other guests in the relaxing lounge with log fire.
Guests are asked to sign the visitors book which is full of flattering remarks and comments from very happy guests. Aboutaberdeen look forward to a return visit to this lovely guesthouse to review other parts of the Isle of Skye.

One of the best things about staying on the Isle of Skye, in addition to the stunning views, is that all parts of the Isle are accessible from one location. Staying at this guest house near Broodford gave easy access to all parts of Skye.
During our journey to the Isle of Skye we visited Eilean Donan Castle in the Highlands of Scotland which is on the way. This is one of the best looking Scottish castles we have seen and a joy to visit. Castles on the Isle of Skye include the ruins of Duntulm Castle and Armadale Castle Isle of Skye Scotland which also houses the MacDonalds Museum. Another example of a well preserved Scottish Castle is Dunvegan Castle which has the Fairy Flag of the MacLeod's and many ghosts.
The Skye Museum Of Island Life is a collection of croft buildings that demonstrate how life on the Isle of Skye would have been and has displays of farming machinery and tools from earlier times.
Places we ate at whilst at this Isle of Skye accommodation included the much famed Three Chimneys Restaurant and the relaxing Creelers Fish Restaurant.
Those who love a wee dram or are interested in the production of whisky will find the Talisker Whisky Distillery Isle of Skye tour interesting and has been one of the best tours aboutaberdeen have been on round a working distillery.
