has been running since 2006 and compliments the Word Festival. WordFringe takes place in May and is an independent festival. It is run by the local writing community of the North East of Scotland and features local writers and invites international writers to their venues across Aberdeen and the Shire. The WordFringe Festival also celebrates new writing from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and the NE of Scotland.

In the 1990s Banff and Buchan and Aberdeenshire Council employed Writers in Residence and the four writers who held this post will be special guests at WordFringe 08.
International guests invited to Word Fringe 2008 include four poets from Paris.
Other events at Word Fringe being held throughout Grampian include storytelling, poetry readings, fiction, music, dance, workshop events, poetry slam and visual images.
Bill Bailey brings his act, Larks in Transit, a compendium of travellersí tales and a reflection upon his 20 years as a travelling comedian to Aberdeen at the AECC on Saturday 1st June 2019
WordFringe Festival Players
The resident theatre company, WordFringe Festival Players
