The MacLeod House Restaurant in Balmedie is one of the finest places to eat in Aberdeen. This impressive 18th century historic mansion house, formerly called Menie House, is now owned by American businessman Donald Trump. He renamed the building after his Scottish mother Mary MacLeod who was born on the Isle of Lewis. We predict that this fine eating establishment will soon boast Michelin star status.

The Aberdeen skies are under attack from an enemy jet. It is spilling a strange yellow smoke. Minutes later, people start killing each other.
Former Royal Air Force Regiment Gunner Jason Harper witnesses this and then his wife, Pippa, telephones him, shouting that she needs him. They then get cut off. He sets straight out, unprepared for the nightmare that unfolds during his journey. Everyone seems to want to kill him.
Along the way, he pairs up with fellow survivor Imogen. But she enjoys killing the living dead far too much. Will she kill Jason in her blood thirst? Or will she hinder his journey through this zombie filled dystopian landscape to find his pregnant wife?

From the moment you turn off the A90 into the Menie Estate and see the magnificent clock and Trump International signs you know you are in for an opulent treat, fortunately at affordable prices. There is a pleasant drive down to the parking area of the Donald Trump restaurant where you pass some fine examples of topiary and this beautiful lion fountain.
We couldn't find disabled access and there are two sets of steps to get into the building where a warm welcome awaits you from the maitre de who shows you into the lounge area with plush leather sofas where you sink in and relax. On colder days there are log fires which produce a wonderful smell and ambience. Here guests can order pre-dinner drinks, enjoy free nuts and olives, and peruse the menu. We enjoyed the set Christmas menu which we read through next to a tastefully decorated Christmas tree and centrepieces on the huge mantelpiece.
From here we were escorted past the well-stocked bar with an impressive array of malt whisky into the dining room. Booking is advised because tables are deliberately set apart to allow privacy between diners and you may be asked to pay a small deposit when making your reservation. The Macleod House is also a Hotel and golf and dinner packages are available.
Whilst waiting for the starter our waiter brought us a lightly fried game amuse bouche served in a tantalising sauce.
Meals are served as silver service and portions are generous and well presented. Below is our starter of roasted pumpkin mousse, beetroot, mozzarella and winter salad.
Other choices included traditional smoked salmon and ballotine of salmon, rye toast, horseradish, lemon & caper salad or celeriac veloute, wild mushroom and pheasant ravioli or ham hock and foie gras, pickled quail egg, mustard and shallot salad.

Main meals included a lovely moist breast of turkey, confit leg kiev, skirlie, parsnip and honey glazed carrot:
More main courses included a hearty dry aged beef fillet en croute, truffle mousseline, fondant potato and kale which will satisfy any appetite:
Vegetarian choices included wild mushroom risotto, shaved chestnut, sage oil and parmesan crackling, whilst those looking for a warming fish and chips alternative can enjoy roast North Sea cod fillet, spiced lentils, aubergine, cauliflower, coriander salad and Moroccan dressing
Another signature amuse bouche arrived complimentary of the chef. This was melt in the mouth shortbread shaped as a dipping soldier with egg shell filled fondant.
For dessert there was the traditional homemade Trump Christmas pudding, vanilla pod ice cream and brandy mascarpone described by Mrs AboutAberdeen as the best she's ever tasted.
Having more of a savoury tooth I enjoyed the Macadamia and pecan nut parfait, coffee gel and green tea sesame sponge:
Other desserts included tonka bean and clementine trifle, marmalade cream and oat crumb or a selection of fine British cheeses, biscuits, chutney and grapes.
The set price included aromatic tea or coffee, warm mince pies and chocolates which rounded off the most delicious and well-presented meal we've enjoyed in Aberdeenshire so far. These can be served back in the lounge or in the dining area. A thoroughly lovely meal served by discrete and attentive waiters. A return visit to try out their lunch and afternoon tea is a must.
